In a number of school districts in the state teachers have voted to take one-day walkouts to protest the legislature not fully funding basic education. Yesterday, Ellensburg School District teachers voted to also participate in a one-day walkout which will occur on Monday, June 1, 2015. This walkout is directed at the state legislature and not the Ellensburg School District. In order to meet the 180 day requirement for our students, the district will have a full day of instruction on Friday, June 12, 2015 and the last day for the school year will be a minimal day on Monday, June 15, 2015 in which students will be released at 10:30 am. I understand that cancelling school on Monday, June 1, 2015 will impact the families of the Ellensburg School District, and I apologize for any inconvenience. However, without the teachers in the classrooms, it would simply not be possible to have school.
I can sympathize with the teachers about the current lack of funding for basic education, the legislature’s failure to adopt an operating budget, and the increasing reliance on district resources to fund our daily operations. However, I cannot support a walkout knowing that the legislature is working hard to fully fund basic education, and the disruption that it may cause to our students and their families.
I want you to know that providing a high quality and safe learning environment is our priority, and I again apologize for any inconvenience to the students or the parents of the Ellensburg School District.

- Sale of Bond
- Philosophical discussion and initial design planning with stakeholders
- Educational Specifications (educational needs only)

What is coming up in the near future as it relates to the public prior to building?
- Public open house for the schematic design phase (every other Tuesday in the MMS Library at 4:30)
- Student open forum(s)
- Survey of staff of other buildings
